Well, Shake It Up, Baby!
The key to enjoying this chai masala is to mix it up before use.My first cup was ridiculously peppery. Although I love pepper, I knew that the spices must have settled during shipping. So, with the little wooden scoop inside as an agitator, I shook the can for several minutes. Sure enough, some of the spices were actually packed down at the bottom, while those on top were looser. I used the little scoop to break up clumps, and shook some more. You could actually see different shades of color in the different layers, so I stirred with the little scoop to mix the colors together. After shaking and stirring, my second cup had a wonderful balance of chai spice flavors the remind me of the chai at a nearby restaurant. I could still taste a little pepper, of course, but nothing like that first cup had. What a treat! So do yourself a favor before you use it, and shake it up!

Top cancer nutrition consultant: "Earns my stamp of approval—healthy & superb flavor"
I'm very picky about Chai as I have my own recipe I've been making and sharing with my clients for years. As a nutrition pro, I have high standards for quality ingredients. Blue Lotus' Traditional Masala Chai is impressive and has a very good flavor. It has no added sugar or sweetener, no denatured milk powder, no unhealthy trans- or hydrogenated fats, no artificial ingredients! Yay! No corn, soy, gluten, or dairy for those of us with allergies! When I don't have time to make home-made, this is a fabulous substitute. Good spicy flavor, but you could make a less-spicy cup by using less of the mix if that's your preference. No sweetener means this chai will work for those on Ketogenic and Paleo diets or anyone watching their blood sugar—serve with stevia or LoHan (monkfruit). No added milk powder means you can choose to use a substitute if you're vegan, Paleo or lactose-intolerant. It's good "Bulletproof" (with organic pasture-raised ghee or coconut butter instead of dairy milk).I enjoy a very spicy cup of chai, and often use double the amount (2 scoops per 8oz liquid). The flavor truly matches traditional brewed chai with a good balance of cardamom, ginger and black pepper. I do favor a bit more cinnamon, but this is easy to remedy by adding an extra teaspoon of quality cinnamon to the container or using a few drops of cinnamon-flavored stevia per mug. It does leave a residue of spices at the bottom of your mug, so a gentle swooshing while you're enjoying your chai can help keep the spices mixed.Don't be put off by the small container size: all 100 cups are in there, and it's great they've avoided unnecessary packaging. I can reuse the tins rather than sending waste to the landfill. Kudos to Blue Lotus for an excellent product that makes it easy for my clients to incorporate more NFkß-inhibiting* spices into their daily diets! [Nope, I'm not affiliated with the company in any way and have not been compensated to endorse this product.]*What's NFkß? Often called cancer's "Master Switch," it's a signaling molecule that turns on hundreds of genes that promote inflammation and drive the cancer growth and progression. Spices have been shown to inhibit it!

Great taste with plenty of spice (masala)
I was looking for a good masala chai and naturally one of the best places to look for was on amazon.com. I was very impressed by the taste and quality of the Blue Lotus Chai. I really could not tell how big or small the container was and quite frankly was a bit disappointing when I got it ; especially since the container says it is good for 100 cups of tea. I added some pictures to the review to give you guys an idea regards to the size of the container (the battery next to the container is the AA size).First impressions: First cup I made was excellent. Plenty of spice (I mean really good spice). It could use a little more black tea if you ask me but again I like really strong teas and coffees so it might come down to personal preference.Serving size: There is a small wooden spoon in the container that you can use to make yourself a cup. I would recommend using that first as the spice concentration is pretty good. If you are not used to or trying this type of tea for the first time you will be surprised by the potency (Starbucks Chai tea is not a good reference point, trust me).All in all great purchase and my initial disappointment regarding the container size evaporated once I started enjoying this tea.Almost forgot to mention the best part of the tea. Unlike a lot of stuff out there, there are no artificial flavors or preservatives. Its 100% pure with no sugar. I just add honey to suit my taste. This in my opinion is a big plus.Suggestions to make the black tea portion stronger: I am going to try adding a tea bag (PG tips brand) of the black tea I use and report back but I would think that would do the trick.
