100% wild harvested maqui berry, direct from South America! Wild harvested, each berry is hand picked and not cultivated on a farm. Fruits that are exposed to strong sunlight face a tremendous amount of ultra violet light stress. This UV light triggers free radicals to form in the fruit. Fruits, such as the Acai berry and particularly the Maqui berry, develop high levels of anthocyanins because they have very strong antioxidants properties and can quench the free radicals. Anthocyanins are a class of highly studied antioxidants that are purported to provide a wide variety of health benefits. In fact, it's the anthocyanins in red wine that give it's great health benefits. Dried maqui berries contain 212 milligrams of anthocyanins per 100 grams of fruit. For comparison, blueberries contain roughly 70 milligrams per 100 grams of fruit. A 2006 study published in Latin American Archives of Nutrition reaffirms maqui berry's incredible antioxidant power. Using the FRAP model (ferric reducing activity power) , Maqui tested out to 12.3 (expressed in mmoles Fe/100g). The two other highest fruit were blackberries and strawberries at 3.5 and 3.1 respectively. That's some SERIOUS antioxidant power in a tiny little berry!

Delicious, real raw berry-like taste - perfect in smoothies and more. Very high ORAC value fruit!
I have been a fan of acai berry powder (and yes, it's good, and I noticed Nature Restore has it, too), but I'm even more glad that I got my hands on some maqui berry powder for the first time! You may not know this, but after doing research on this, I found this actually has a higher ORAC value than pretty much any other fruit out there - more than acai (but acai is good too!). In terms of taste, I really like this because I can tell it's the real raw berry they've harvested and then gently dried to preserve the taste and freshness. It's PERFECT for smoothies, putting on ice cream, adding to applesauce, cottage cheese, and even a sprinkle into baby food. Because it's such a rich and real berry powder, I personally don't use it in water since it has some challenge in completely dissolving, but I really like using this in the ways I just mentioned. It has a deep rich berry flavor profile from my perspective, and it's quality. That's all I can say. This is probably my favorite superfood powder now.
