It does work...
Likes:1) It's a good weight (9 lbs)2) It's VERY STURDY3) It's "customizable"4) The supplied nuts are nylon "locking" types - they WILL NOT "spontaneously loosen"!5) The steel tube material is BEEFY - it won't "easily crumple, etc." with use6) The "bracket welds" on the "tamp plate" are impressive - I don't expect them to break under "normal use"7) Assembly is VERY EASY - the holes actually LINE UP!Dislikes:1) As noted by other reviewers, the SCREWS are a bit long!2) The "tamp plate" material "could" be a little thicker (i.e., by 50%?)This tamper does a Very Good Job of "compacting" yard waste (chopped blackberries, etc.) in the disposal bin. I put it together using ONLY ONE handle tube (the one with the rubber end) as that's all I needed for using it and, to my "surprise", the finished length is PERFECT for my use!Assembly: DO NOT USE the enclosed "nut wrench" - rather use a 1/2" socket and ratchet handle. Trust me, the ratchet will make tightening the nuts a lot easier. The enclosed HEX WRENCH is more than adequate for "holding" the bolts while you tighten the nuts. Yes, you can "over-tighten" the nuts a little - this will help prevent "rattling" by "compressing" the steel against itself.Bolt length: I appreciate the "generous" bolt length, however once assembled/tightened, there is "quite a bit" of protruding threads (between 3/8" and 1/2"). However, this can be alleviated by using a hacksaw or "Dremel" tool with a cutting disc to lop off the extra threads. Just remember to FILE DOWN the sharp edges afterward (especially the HANDLE bolts)! :)Otherwise, this is a Very Good "budget" tool for the "casual, etc." gardener.

Easy to handle
Assemble easy. Nice weight for anyone to use. Used to tamp down filler between patio blocks and worked well

Easy to put together and not to heavy for this little woman to lift and tamp!
I like the sturdiness of this tool. I liked that it wasn't too heavy to do the job, yet got the job done. I used it to tamp the sand down before I laid some dog turf. Oh and the price was much better than in the store, you don't wait long for delivery, or have to go to the store!

Can be a good product with quality control
The item I received looked used and had a-lot of scratches, therefore I unfortunately returned my purchase. The weight of the product was okay, but the build quality was inferior. The handle shook a-lot as though the bolts were the wrong size. Ease of assemble was simple, and the design and size of the product was as expected. I would recommend if the quality control was more consistent.

Gets the job done, nice price point but less on quality
Clever packaging and good overall product.. saved me 20$ vs hardware store. Other reviews are correct.. the extra long bolts stick out quite a bit and are annoying. Not a deal breaker for me since I’ll use sparingly for minor yard projects but wouldn’t buy otherwise. Bolted components for the shaft vs a store bought singular shaft make it so that it feels a bit loose and upon impact you can feel it clink/shift in your grip a bit. The 10x10” size is nice and larger than others I saw at Home Depot 8x8
