Mama's and Papas !
The pictures are so beautifully done and the story is just the same as it always has been. My mom used to read these to me when I was little and now I read them to my kids! They love the pictures just as much as I do.The box itself is sturdy and beautiful as well. I also got this for my 6yo to start reading as she has zoomed through every child's book with ease. My 8yo struggles with reading and he is slower about it.So if you're getting these for your kids to read - remember that these books were in different times and you may not remember the WORDS and SLANG used about people during these times. There was only a few words and slangs used in the first book that I wasn't prepared for. So educate your kids for sure before allowing them to read or before reading to them. Mentally this would be better for a maybe 10 year old or up.Otherwise I think it could be a good book for any avid child reader 6 and up. If your child can read and only struggle on more advanced words - let them read!We got through the first book with a chapter every night or two within a month. Excited to start book 2.Keep on reading!

If you buy these you won't regret it
I ordered this box set for my little boy(yes it's not just for girls) for Christmas. We had been reading my books, which I recieved for Christmas back when I was eight. He loved the stories. He is very imaginative and spent weeks hunting panthers, just like Pa. His only complaint about the books was that the pictures were not in color. Also, because the my books were old and well used (read starting to fall apart) and they were a gift from my grandmother, I wouldn't let him read them without me. He really wanted his own set to read on his own. I was only going to get the first two books(Little House in the Big Woods, and Little House on the Prarie) for him. They have larger print and more pictures, the others are a little above his reading level with smaller print, more pages and fewer pictures. But when I found this set with color pictures I knew I had to get it. These books were the only thing he asked for at Christmas. After he opened them, we didn't see him the rest of the day, he was off with his books. The pictures are beautiful and he loves the color. Also the pages are much higher quality. A slick, thicker paper. More like what you would find in a quality hardback picture book than a child's chapter book. These books, especially the first two are great to read out loud to younger readers. My son is in 1st grade, but even his little sister who is 4 enjoys listening to these stories and they hold her attention. Also for a beginning reader these books are great. They are challenging but not to complex for kids to sound out. I would say the first two are about a 2nd - 3rd grade level and the others a 3rd-5th grade. If you buy these you won't reget it.

Perfect for My Tween Girl
I bought this set for my granddaughter (10 1/2), as a way to introduce her to recent American history in a relatable context. WIlder's memoirs are a late frontier classic and were an immediate hit with my granddaughter. She is working her way through them now (a great summer vacation time filler), and reports on her progress to me regularly. The set is printed on quality paper, well bound for paperbacks (something I generally avoid), and the illustrations are beautifully, and sprinkled liberally throughout each volume. The slipcase fits snugly, which helps to keep the individual volumes in good condition. An overall excellent value and an important read.

The set only has the first 5 books, but has gorgeous color illustrations
This boxed set of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House of the Prairie series of books only contains Books 1-5 [a puzzle indeed, why couldn't the publishers have made the entire series available?]. The books in this set, in order are: Little House in the Big Woods, Farmer Boy, Little House on the Prairie, On the Banks of Plum Creek, and By the Shores of Silver Lake.Though it is not the complete set, this boxed collection is worth splurging on as it is a full-color collector's edition. The illustrations by Garth Williams are beautiful and truly evoke the wonderful world written about by Laura Ingalls Wilder all those years ago. The paper is of high quality and has a glossy finish to it, the text type is large enough that it won't strain one's eyes, and is sturdy enough to be held and read over and over again.I believe the other books in the series not included in this set are also available to be purchased individually[also illustrated in full color by Garth Williams]. The missing titles are: The Long Winter, Little Town on the Prairie, These Happy Golden Years, and The First Four Years.Fans both young and old will enjoy these timeless stories of family, community, faith and challenges, and this sumptuously illustrated boxed set is sure to be a keepsake for collectors, and something that can be passed down.

Brings Back Memories
I first fell in love with this series in elementary school. I wanted to reread it as an adult.
