I have tried countless brands from local chinese supermarkets but all have been the same: aromatic, yet tasteless and full of seeds. There really is no comparison. This stuff actually has the trademark numbing sensation! I'm glad I decided to try the internet for some decent hua jiao. However, that's not to say this is a perfect product. There are still a few unripe peppercorns with seeds lodged inside and many have small stems attached. Nevertheless this is a hude improvement from what I'm used to. BTW, since there are fewer seeds in the package, you are actually getting MORE product per ounce.

These authentic Szechuan Peppercorns are nothing like regular peppercorns. They have an intense citrusey, herbal aroma- like a combination of lemon juice, orange peel, spearmint and sage. The taste was even more intense with tart lemony flavors, hints of savory and thyme and a strange, numbing, buzzing sensation-I'm not really sure how else to describe it. It was more than I was expecting but not altogether unpleasant. These little guys pack quite a punch- I had one and my mouth was "buzzing" for a good ten minutes. I can't wait to make another batch of five spice powder now that I have the real deal.

Very fragrant! Opening this bag of peppercorns made me wonder just how old peppercorns I've purchased earlier were. There is a huge difference, and absolutely worth spending a little extra to get a better quality. Will buy again!

First, these were packed on July 17th, with a expiration of March 7, 2022. I've never seen an expiration of 3 years and 7+ months on a spice. It was packed over 7 almost 8 months ago, for such a high grade I would expected it to be no longer than a few months.I've gotten much better ones in Amazon than this brand. I was disappointed in the flavor and freshness, especially since the read "the highest grade". Also too many seeds in with the husks. I'll go back to the previous brand I used, those were the brand that came the closest to the ones I got from a market in china.

Open the bag and right away you can tell this is a quality product from the powerful scent. Grind some up and put a little powder on your tongue and after some bright floral and citrus notes your tongue will tingle for several minutes.There will be seeds, but it's an acceptable amount. I attached a picture of 1 tablespoon of peppercorns with the seeds, loose stems and other debris separated out. It just takes a minute to sort through.The packaging is nice. Resealable with zip fastener.I'm very pleased with this purchase. I might try purchasing a cheaper version next time to see if it's really worth double the money. I suspect it is.

Great deal on bulk Szechuan peppercorns. I've used them on multiple things ranging from baking to soups, and fried dishes. The quality is wonderful, they are completely deseeded, I only wish that they came without the stem as some do. Overall, they are a wonderful addition to any chili oil or dish to give it a special kick. The price seemed reasonable for the amount that was received.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the bag was there were almost no stems and seeds. I have been making using Szechuan Peppercorns for a few years and have always had to use more then recipes called for in order to get the signature numbing feeling that the peppercorns are known for. Not with these, a small amount was plenty to give a numbing feeling. Don't buy the cheap stuff the quality stuff just gives so much more flavor.

Fantastic value on very good quality. I've always had small containers of szechuan peppercorns, sometimes in those dumb plastic grinders and always overpriced and kind of dusty and old seeming. These are fresh, clean and super flavorful, and I'm grateful for the abundance that's got me using it all the time - even mixing in with typical regular black pepper on anything and everything - eggs, salad, sandwiches, etc.
