Poor quality nearly unusable....save your $ and buy elsewhere...

Gouged coating with exposed steel, smashed connection eyes, and delivered in box that looked like it was shot from a cannon....Second attempt at buying these and should have saved my money...These look like seconds or manufacturers defect returned. Both Connecting eyelets where crushed flat against the ball, mold not semetric, and lots of exposed steel means that I need to spend money and time to get these to work. Save your money and buy somewhere else...

Great for slow speed kokanee fishing

The rubberized coating is solid and complete on the two weights that I bought, and I like having recycled iron/scrap rather than pumping more lead into the waters and around the kids I take fishing. Good value and they work great for my koke and trout fishing... normally up to ~3mph and 10-60 feet deep.

What a waste!

This POS was useless, a complete waste of money. I thought, “How can anyone screw up a downrigger ball”?Well, if they send it just in a box, rattling around, the top eye hook will get bent over, making it impossible to attach it to the cable, THAT’S how.( it was 12 lb) The item is totally useless and a waste of $15. Do yourself a favor and just pick one up at BassPro.

Well worth the money

Read some not so good reviews.....received my downrigger ball and it has good coating, not much larger profile than lead balls and has solid eyelets. For the price I will buy again. The 12#downrigger weight was actually like 11.8#, so close enough. Full disclosure* I use to use a homemade weight that was cement that someone used a large can as the mold that weighed roughly 10# and that worked better than I would have thought and caught a lot of kings with. It was my backup weight that one of my friends grandfather's made. After loosing a ball I was forced to deploy it and used it until I lost it a season later on a rock pile.....

Great canoe / kayak anchor

Using this as a small anchor for my canoe. Tested it out last weekend in decent amount of wind and it did great. I like it because it's small and it probably won't hang up.

Goes Down and Straight

Works great. It runs straight and it has held up well after being used for about 4 fishing trips. It did come with a pretty good gouge in the coating. Not a big deal, its going to get banged up as I use it, but I can't give something 5 stars that comes damaged. I would recommend, best bang for your buck I have seen on Amazon for downrigger weight.

Safe purchase! Buy a heavier one than you think you need.

It is a well made and well coated quality product. At least the one I got. I use mine on my inflatable kayak. I do regret buying the 4lb instead of at least the 8lb. It does not take much of a current or wind to pull this smooth 4lb ball accross the bottom. Thinking of buying an additional 4lb ball.

Great product

This worked great as an anchor for my fishing kayak.

Underweight - 4lb was more than 3 Oz light or about -5%

I am not expecting medical grade precision on the weight of these, I did think that more than 5% light seems a bit much. It will certainly affect blow-back when working with these smaller and lighter weights. That said - coating looks very good with zero blemishes, so certainly good value for money.

Item as described

The quality seems good, but spend the extra few dollars and get the one with a longer tail fin, less problems with tangling the leader when bottoming out
