In some ways not an issue for the product but something to be aware of - if the pipes have any burrs, the bungs will be cut up quickly and will, I'm sure, become unusable.Using pipe slices - burs are always internal, so using the external cap worked a treat and was far more secure than the internal bung option.Still I liked these and recommend them to stop the flood when a stop cock/gate valve doesn't stop the flow. I felt confident leaving them in place overnight to do their job.

I used these last summer to clean my system radiators and cold waster tank. Very useful to prevent leaks and bung pipes.

The fact you’re reading this means you’re most likely thinking about doing some work on your heating system and don’t want to shell out £150 for a plumber to come and do it in 10 minutes. If so, read on… I’m decorating daughters room and wanted a new radiator and valve as old one looked crap. Read up on how to “bung” my gravity fed heating system so that I could create a vacuum in the system and change the valve without draining the system. Honestly, it was easy. Find the little expansion tank in your loft, bung the cold water supply pipe below the water line first, then bung the mains water feed above it. Make sure they’re TIGHT. Open the radiator bleed valve and bleed the pressure off into a bucket. If you’ve got a good airlock the pressure will drop and eventually the water will stop completely. You can now crack on with doing your valve change. But be quick just in case you lose the vacuum. You’ll need a proper pipe wrench, some mole grips, and some radiator jointing compound. All can be bought on Amazon for under £40. Save yourself some money, learn a new skill, and feel like an absolute boss! 😀

I purchased to help me change some rad valves without draining down. I have a central heating system with a make up tank in the loft. (It is not a pressurised type system) On my system the make up pipe from the tank happens to be in 22mm. So the inside part of the brass tank connector in the make-up tank is slightly bigger bore than the inside of a 22mm pipe itself. Many systems will be like this. The largest 22mm part of the bung is not big enough to seal a 22mm tank connector. I ended up winding some elec insulating tape around the 22mm end of the bung to make it slightly bigger. I might as well have made something up from scratch rather than pay £13 quid. I assumed that the taper of the 22mm bung would be big enough to cater for a 22mm tank connector. I thought wrong. It’s a shame because the silicone is great and better than hard rubber.
