What to know before you buy this
They came out with an update for the app recently, so I figured I’d update my review.First of all, this is a nice product in that the unit itself is very cool, that little ball can move the sand with some impressive precision. However, it can be frustrating to get started because there are no instructions whatsoever except for their utopian —Pour in the sand, connect, enjoy—. Not even a QR code to make sure you go to the right app. **There is a different app for the 11” than for the other sizes.** I don’t know why they don’t tell you that. I found that out after hours of frustration from an outside source right before I was going to return it. I’ll tell you what they won’t, you want the white app for the 11”, not the purple one. (I can only say about App Store) There is a QR code on the box, but it doesn’t take you to where you download the right app, it takes you to their website where there is no direction on where to go for the app you want. They really need to improve that.Before the recent update connectivity was an absolute nightmare. It was weeks with no connectivity at all! They did improve on that but since then, downloading new patterns is impossible, and playing a playlist is impossible. All I can do is select a pattern and it will play over and over until I decide to pick another pattern. Very disappointed with that.It has a timer, which is good, but it only controls the ball, which I just don’t get. Why wouldn’t it control the lights too? Why would you be able to have the ball start and stop with a timer, and make me have to log in every single time to toggle the lights?! The login process can take around 15-20 seconds, just so I can turn the lights on or off which takes .03 seconds. WHY???? I really hope they add a timer for the lights too.I’m happy with this product, just not with the connectivity issues I’ve had with the app, and still have. I hope they are working on that, and that they add a timer for the lights. The app has a LOT of room for improvement.Update 4/28/25:I figured out that you have to reset the unit after you upgrade, now it’s finally the product I bought. They even included the lights with the timer! :)Happy with my Drift, although it’s not perfect. (For example: Yesterday the ball just stopped moving, had to restart the playlist to get it moving)I do wish they had clearer instructions. After you’ve downloaded the correct app, it does tell you which app you should download- if that gives you an example. Other than that it’s so far so good. In good faith that it will stay that way, I’m giving 5 stars.

It won’t work.
This would be very cool if it worked properly but it does not! Ours has never connected to the app and has stopped doing anything. It’s just an expensive nightlight. Homedics customer service is a joke. They won’t help you. Would be a great item if it worked but buyer beware.

Very beautiful but..
Very beautiful but the app is horrible to use and the on off switch does not work. I exchange the power cable and does dis not work on replacement cable either. Now I have to unplug everytime I want to turn off.

The App is Terrible
You get the opposite of a Zen experience. The unit itself is beautiful when it works, but the app to control it is incredibly frustrating, it does not work most of the time (hence the frustration and opposite effect to a Zen experience). If the app worked well I would enthusiastically give this 5 stars, but unfortunately I cannot.

Don't do it
Very expensive paperweight!!! I received TWO of these for Christmas. It is now February 1st and still have been unable to use either of them because the app is completely useless, but product does not work without the app at all! App freezes literally as soon as you open it before you're able to click on anything. Then it completely closes itself out. I have repeatedly emailed the company any they just say "the app problem has been fixed" REALLY?? No it hasn't been! It takes WEEKS for them the reply back to one email, so where is the professionalism and the tech team for their product???? It is beyond frustrating & both boxes were thrown away with all our other Christmas wrap garbage. Now what?? How can I even return these? My poor husband and children! They had to save up to get me these! What am I supposed to do now??

Great Hardware, Bad Software
Excellent build quality and packaging.Excellent product really!But the software it requires is absolutely not up to par with the product. While the design of the app is excellent, with many solid features and content - it simply doesn't work most of the time.It took me 2 hours of trying to connect the device to my wifi, it just kept failing for no reason. Finally I got it to connect, and then it took another hour trying to get it to download patterns, kept failing there too. Then I finally had all my patterns and went to play the new playlist I created, and it has more issues connecting again. Switching between patterns doesn't work properly either.I did finally get it shuffling between a good list of random patterns, seems to be working now. I'm afraid to change any settings to disturb it again..
